Pedal setup
Calibrate the Clotho foot pedal and set its dead zones right here in your browser. Plug the pedal into your computer with a USB cable, click Connect, and pick it from the list. There’s nothing to install.
Your browser can’t talk to USB devices, so this won’t be able to find your pedal. It works in Chrome, Edge or Opera on a desktop or laptop, but not in Firefox or Safari, and not on phones. You can still try the demo.
This pedal hasn’t been calibrated yet. It’s using the pot’s whole range, but the pedal only turns it about a fifth of the way, so the motor might not run at all, or might only ever get a little bit of speed. Calibrate it below.
The motor is locked off until you let the pedal all the way up. It does that after every change so the wheel never starts on its own.

Dead zones
The motor stays off for this much of the pedal’s travel, so resting your foot on it doesn’t start the wheel.
The last bit of travel is full speed, so you don’t have to stand on it to get there.
Calibrate
The pedal only turns its pot through part of its range, so it has to learn where all the way up and all the way down are. Do this once after you build it, and again if you take the pedal apart. The motor stays off while you calibrate.
- Press the pedal all the way down, then let it all the way up. Do that two or three times.
- When the bar below stops growing, click Save.

If it doesn’t work
- The pedal isn’t in the list. Some USB cables only carry power. Try another one. The pedal usually shows up as a Pro Micro or an Arduino Leonardo, or sometimes as just a USB serial device.
- It says the port is busy. Something else has it open, usually the Arduino IDE’s serial monitor or another tab with this page in it. Close that and try again.
- It connects but never answers. Unplug the pedal, plug it back in, and connect again. If it still doesn’t answer, the pedal firmware probably isn’t on it yet; it’s in the files.
- The speed goes up as you let the pedal up. The two outer wires on the pedal’s pot are swapped. Swap them back and calibrate again.
- The motor won’t start after saving. Let the pedal all the way up. It stays locked off after every change until it sees the pedal at rest.
- On Linux, your user needs to be in the
dialoutgroup (oruucpon Arch) to open serial ports.

Everything the pedal says, and everything this page says to it. You can type the pedal’s commands (CAL, DZ, STATUS) here yourself.
